The Deep soundtrack
Colored vinyl is all the rage today. Yet even back in the
1970s and 80s, there were the occasional ones as well. Such as this soundtrack
from the 1977 film, The Deep.
This was the first ever soundtrack released by Casablanca
Records (they would later score another hit with the Thank God It’s Friday
OST). The record features only five tracks. It’s mostly classical scores by
conductor John Barry but there are a pair of disco tunes as recorded by
then-Casablanca star, Donna Summer, and Alston “Becket” Cyrus (aka “Beckett”)
who recorded the song “Disco Calypso” for the album.
While most pressings of this soundtrack are of the black
color there are a few that are in the blue translucent color.
My father used to have both the black and blue translucent
vinyl. That of course, was lost to the fire that gutted our home. So getting
this back means a lot to both him and me.
