Listening to some golden oldies this Sunday night

I was weaned on this stuff even as a youngster. Sure I was a metal and punk kid, but I grew up in a household where my father routinely played Sinatra, Goodman, the Rat Pack, Ray Conniff, the Carpenters, Ella Fitzgerald, and a whole lot more.

Somehow that music stayed with me as I got older. But I do have to credit listening to the Style Council, Prefab Sprout, Linda Ronstadt's 1983 album What's New, as well as films like Platoon, Growing Up, and the Big Chill for getting into this music.

And now, as much as I love ska, punk, shoegaze, and reggae, these oldies are strong favorites to this day. And these past two weeks, they are on heavy rotation on my turntable and iTunes.
